Growing up, Grandma Ruth's kitchen was always warm from the oven and everything was made from scratch. She always said the best recipes were the simplest, because they were easy to remember. That's why her extra fudgy brownies are still in the family today. She used to put us grandchildren to work - measuring, mixing, and licking the spoon. The moment those brownies were in the oven, we would yank on her apron and ask "Are they done yet?"

One day, Grandma Ruth got so tired of hearing us fuss that she spread the extra brownie batter thin on a baking sheet, stuck it in the oven, and wound the kitchen timer. Moments later, a new confection was born - thin, crispy brownie pieces pulled from the pan. Originally called "Zingers" after the zing of the kitchen timer, Ruth's Brownie Bark is a crunchy snack that packs the rich taste of a chocolate brownie into each bite.
